Copper drinkware is popular in India for reasons that go beyond looks, and it's a genuinely well-received corporate gift. But it comes with care requirements almost nobody mentions at the point of sale — and an unhappy recipient a month later isn't the outcome you paid for.

What to tell recipients (or include on a card in the box):

• Wash with lemon and salt or tamarind, not dishwasher detergent. Copper tarnishes, and dishwashers accelerate it badly.
